The Green Belt Movement
Nicole le Roux is the main coordinator of Kukummi. She was born South Africa. At the age of 11, le Roux moved to Massachusetts, USA. During the summer of 2004 she did a six-week volunteer internship at Jacaranda Designs writing for an educational magazine, The Young African Express. Le Roux spent a week on the Green Belt Safari, thanks to the financial support of Wangari Maathai, the founder of the Green Belt Movement, and Wanjira Maathai, the International Liaison of the movement and the daughter of Wangari. The safari entailed spending four nights in home-stays and two days in the Aberdere Game Park where the Green Belt Movement had planted many trees.
